Wolverine at his Best.....

The X-men origins: wolverine is a kind of game that would be so much lovable to play no matter what. It has got the ever loving cinematic fell in the game play plus you get to kick the bad-ass villains in varied and stylish combos. Whether it’s the dueling mode, one-on-one or the chained rage moves, its simply awesome to watch as well as to play.

The story begins with a splendid cut-scene from the future showing Wolverine as a monster with tremendous healing powers and his combat skills to use the environment to his advantage then moves back in time in the past where he is in a special ops team serving in Africa on a plane to the mission area. Then as an element of surprise the plane gets hit by an anti-aircraft missile and is totaled, but as you all know there is always someone who could survive anything… and that where WOLVERINE comes in. The first time you see the screen you would probably wondering whats our hero doing in mid-air skydiving well to my surprise I get to control his free fall to the ground without parachute and dodging incoming missile at you. Then you crash land over a Machete soldier (an African-rebel soldier, that’s what it suppose to mean) then you are to begin the game with your furious vengeance to find your place as the ever bad animal Wolverine.

The story is wonderful. Set in two different time lines its keep you gripping to the game even longer and it slightly differs from the movie in someplace, but I am not gonna spell out the rest of the story in detail. The character introduction goes in such a way that every time you complete a mission which is taking down a boss, or solving a puzzle or two along with kicking the butt of some villains you get a cut-scene showing the Wolverines motives and objectives along with certain twists and new character introduction who would take you to the time line with the words in the present like “Don`t you remember what happened in Africa???” and then you are back in the past left with the same spot or position in the level or checkpoint you cleared the time before you started out with the previous mission.

Four thing I love about the game play

1.You get to do some grueling action combos

2.Solve some tedious puzzle( which are not that tough!!! Trust me on this)

3.Level design

4.Navigating your way and finishing moves on the bosses

1.Action:

Its like working every second of the game, you get to use your lunge powers, the feral sense, the special powers like drilling the enemy, slicing them vertically and diagonally and using your ultimate power rage combat, but every thing has its price you need to earn it before you get to use it.

You need to collect XP or experiences through combo meter and finding hidden dog-tags through out the game and not to mention doing the mission objectives in precise and given methods( that you would love) and doing this action non-stop without you getting killed, only with some bruises( well they do heal quickly in real-time and also when you are near a big explosion or there is a guy with a shot-gun aiming right at you get to see your flesh thrown out and heal or form as you move around) and that’s something you love, getting hurt and watch healing… but you have to play a really big price.. I played the game in two systems. Mine with Ge force 8600 GT with 256 MB dedicated RAM showed only a little bit of that gruesome action but in my friend`s system with a 19 inch wide screen and a Ge force 9800 S Li and 1 GB dedicated RAM, it was totally awesome.

2.Puzzle:

The puzzles are quite simple for me. Its like finding ways to escape death traps and opening doors by finding hidden power-cells and accessing areas with visible elements around, that are either to be moved around or fixed in some places and finding ways to retrieve objects that are directly or indirectly in the range of threat by laser-beams and gigantic robots.

The major puzzle that I loved is the one where you need to find an exit out of an area with virtually nothing but your very own feral sense that would only guide you with rather a direct line of contact but no other clues, it took me nearly 5 minutes to figure that out.

3.Level design:

The location and the level design are sculpted to perfection. Both the African wildlife as well as numerous ruins and buildings on the game are wonderful. The best level is the one in the research facility where they would have taken away all your powers and you need to find ways to retrieve them one by one with a help of a friend( to be honest that’s the level, I took a long time to clear as I kept falling for the traps).

You get to use some major areas in to your advantage as there would be more than one villain at a time and you don`t need to worry about saving the game at times because it saves automatically in each checkpoint( its kind of useful in the sense that even when the game hangs for no reason, it did when I played some level with full graphics but not all, you can get back to last checkpoint in no time)

4.Navigation and Bosses:

What I love about this game is the location and navigation just like Elika`s magic orb navigation in Prince of Persia, there is feral sense to help you navigate and as well as finding objects to use around you in the area within range. There is also one lovable thing that I do love which is that you can fell like doing anything in the game like climbing tall towers, moving over rails, beams and ropes to swing from area to area and as well as climbing the walls along the tree roots and grilled meshes. You can even dodge, roll and dash… if you need to….

The bosses are perfected as said before and not that tough. Most are like trolls and huge mechanical robots. There is some level in which, requires you to take down some enemies by continual button presses like in God Of War. The best of them all is the one gigantic robot, the mark 1 Mutant killer (the one in the size of Megatron in Transformers movie) where you are to kill this guy( or should I say damage the circuits anyway!!!) by SKY DIVING and dodging the Debris or loose parts from the falling Robot as you sky dive and finish him off in the likes of the movie KUNG FU HUSTLE climax.

They have finished the game with nearly the same climax of the movie, but to quite an extent there is also a cut-scene showing him in way beyond the future where he is found in the city full of mark 1 mutant killer destroying the entire city and him in total control saying,

“I got the perfect weapon to finish anything” -----Claws out-----

Its without doubt that this is the best action game on store right now and with that critical acclaim it has found to be containing all the required elements for taking away your killer instinct to a long run and the unstoppable rage to be in full throttle for a minimum of 15-20 hours Game play in normal mode.

  1. That’s a nice review Abi, I have something to share about the game. First off all it’s a fantastic Action game because recent days there is no action game make you feel you are playing a action game. I differentiate the Best and the worst of the Game.

    Best:

    Super Hero:
It’s Wolverine one of best Comic character ever, you’re the Wolverine here with Great combat moves.

    Cut Scenes:
Best part of the game is the cut scene great graphics. They make the Game travel in the Story.

    Huge Big Boss:
The big Boss is Huge in structure, at sometimes its difficult to fight them as the stage progresses more of them will be in a single fight so watch out guys.

    Claws:
The claws of wolverine are felt while cutting the enemies into half’s and tearing apart.

And all the other good things are said by ABI in his review, now let’s move on to the worst part.

    Worst:

    Repetitive game play:
The missions are of same type through out the game even the big bosses are the same, one thing to keep it up is that as the mission goes the number of big boss in the single fight scene increases.

    Past and Present:
As you play the game you move to be past and present both have a same type of villans. The one difference is there model.

    Controls:
Camera and controls in PC as not easy (i.e.) for example Dodge move required you to use shift + Z + the direction. Which is very difficult and it’s the only easiest way to destroy the Big Boss.

    To Easy:
As you increase your power the villains became easier it’s a good feature but when the stage progresses the game feel easy.

    Fed up:
When I was playing the game one night, as I progress I fed up by same type of villans again and again in different number.

    Movie:
I like the movie a lot then the game the feel of the love for the girl make the anger of the Wolverine that is missing in the game.

Suggestions that make game even better: Wolverine fights some enemy in the cut-scene it doesn’t feel like we are doing it. it would have been better if it is given to press appropriate button to make us feel that we are there in action.

One Line about Game: Game is made for hardcore action fans

Rating: I rate the game 6 out of 10. But no perfect action in the recent makes me to Give it a 7 out of 10.
